Yesterday the American Screenwriters Association posted the names of the semi-finalists in their 11th Annual Screenplay Competition and my script for All Hallows Eve was on the list.
The ASA competition is one of 4 major contests in North America and out of 1,400 submissions, All Hallows Eve is now one of about 40 scripts chosen to advance to the semi-finals. While I was just happy and encouraged to have made the original quarterfinals, I have to admit that things are now getting pretty exciting!
For those of you who may not know, All Hallows Eve takes place one hundred years after the Salem witch trials of 1692, as a single mother confronts terrifying supernatural forces while searching for her kidnapped daughter on the scariest night of the year… All Hallows Eve.
The ASA will announce the five winning finalists on or about May 31st, and to give you an idea of the stakes we’re talking about here, the first place prize adds up to $20,000 in cash and prizes ($10,000 in cash). So while I’m not really expecting to make it any further, it sure would be nice!
Until then, I’m just going to enjoy having my work recognized by some very important judges and use it as an excuse to celebrate with some very fine Scotch.
